Military survival training in theory and practice

As long as I breathe, I hope
...First, things turn out differently and second, survival situations surprise us and know different faces. "As long as I breathe, I hope" is the title of a book about a British medical student who survived over Christmas for about 43 days in the Himalayas in a seemingly hopeless situation injured and almost without food. In civilian life, survival in emergency situations always depends on will and skill. The Survival Outdoor School has introduced several thousand people of all ages and different professions to survival skills over the past 33 years  (more)

Survival skills - central in the military
There are also plenty of impressive examples from past and present military conflicts that drastically demonstrate the importance of systematic and sustainable survival training.
During a refresher course, during foreign deployments and, of course, in military conflicts, members of the armed forces will have to survive the next night, the next days or the next weeks in a wide variety of emergency situations - depending on the situation and possibly only with the material they carry on them. Survival will come to those members of the Armed Forces who have been trained in survival skills.

Advise and teach
Advising: The SOS advises military units and individuals individually as they seek to systematically and sustainably optimize their survival skills.
Training: The SOS offers a wide range of survival training modules. Various military units in Switzerland and abroad have recognized the need for systematic and holistic survival training. For many years, the Survival Outdoor School has been teaching survival skills to military units and pilots in Switzerland and abroad, and can in turn benefit from the experience of these units in missions and exercises.

The philosophy of the Survival Outdoor School as a starting point
The SOS generates, maintains and develops knowledge on survival skills and imparts it. The activities of the SOS are based on the following philosophy: The lessons are based on the knowledge of people living close to nature in Europe and North America. They have a philosophy of respect and reverence for the earth.
From a methodological point of view, the lessons always combine knowledge transfer with practical work, so that participants learn to understand techniques as well as their background and to apply them step by step (more...)

Adaptation to your specific needs
This holistic philosophy is the basis of all SOS courses. Depending on your needs, the participants and your possibilities, the SOS adapts training content, learning objectives and approach when training military units: A wide range of training scenarios are possible, from selective advisory activities to specific training units lasting several weeks (summer and winter survival).
